What changes for every Hunter in WoW Forever?
Blizzard laid this out in its Hunter and Druid class deep dive on September 30, 2026, then showed it in Part 2 of its Class Highlights video on October 3. The headline: Aimed Shot is baseline at level 20 for every spec, with a shorter cast that no longer messes with your Auto Shot timer.
- Multi-Shot now shares a cooldown with Aimed Shot. Arcane Shot doesn’t anymore.
- Traps work in combat, but their cooldown goes up to 30 seconds. Frost and Fire traps have separate cooldowns, and you still drop them at your own feet.
- Aspect of the Beast also gives melee Attack Power, and Disengage drops twice as much threat.
- Scorpid Sting now lowers the target’s hit chance by 2% instead of its Strength and Agility.
Hunter abilities in the video: mana, cast time and cooldown
These are the tooltips shown in the October 3 video. They’re beta values, so damage numbers can still move before launch on November 4.
| Ability | Mana | Cast | Range | Cooldown | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aimed Shot | 320 | 2 sec | 8–35 yd | 6 sec | +166 ranged damage; shares its cooldown with Multi-Shot |
| Sniper Shot (Marksmanship) | 365 | 4 sec | 8–45 yd | 15 sec | Ranged damage +295; your next 3 shots get +10 yd range for 10 sec |
| Strider Kick (Survival) | 100 | Instant | Melee | 8 sec | 100% weapon damage and +30% movement speed for 3 sec |
| Mongoose Bite | 65 | Instant | Melee | 5 sec | Weapon damage +57; normally usable only after you dodge |

WoW Forever Hunter pets: the Fox and every family’s unique ability
Pets now take stats from your gear, so upgrading your own armor and weapons makes your pet stronger too. The flip side: pets can no longer receive player buffs that raise their stats. Every family can learn Bite or Claw (some get both) and Dive or Dash, and each one has an ability no other family gets.
| Family | Unique ability | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Fox (new) | Trickster's Dance | Raises the pet’s dodge chance and attack speed for 12 sec |
| Bat | Sonic Blast | Damage plus a spellcasting slow on the target |
| Bear | Swipe | Damaging attack that hits 3 targets |
| Bird of Prey (was Owl) | Mine! | Damage and disarms the target |
| Boar | Charge | Charges and immobilizes the target, next pet attack gets Attack Power |
| Carrion Bird | Demoralizing Screech | Damages nearby enemies and lowers their melee Attack Power |
| Cat | Prowl | Stealth, and the next attack from stealth hits harder |
| Crab | Pinch | Damage and a movement slow |
| Crocolisk | Dismember | Damage and 50% less healing received on the target |
| Gorilla | Thunderstomp | Area damage around the pet |
| Hyena | Tendon Rip | Movement slow and a bleed |
| Raptor | Savage Rend | Bleed over time |
| Scorpid | Poison | Stacking damage over time |
| Spider | Web | Immobilize plus damage over time |
| Tallstrider | Dust Cloud | Lowers the target’s armor |
| Turtle | Shell Shield | Less damage taken and lower attack speed for 12 sec |
| Wind Serpent | Lightning Breath | 20-yard ranged damage |
| Wolf | Furious Howl | Raises party members’ melee Attack Power |
Blizzard hasn’t said where Foxes can be tamed yet. Two beta changes matter when you go taming: since the September 24 build, Tame Beast doesn’t work on Beasts above your level, and the October 1 build brought back Aggressive mode, found under the pet tab in your spellbook. The same September build cut Furious Howl’s Attack Power bonus by 40%.
Beast Mastery: Summon Hawk and Focused Fire
The new 16-point talent Summon Hawk deals instant damage and sends a Hawk at your target for 18 seconds. You can have two Hawks out, and it shares a cooldown with Arcane Shot. Focused Fire raises all damage you and your pet deal while the pet is out, and Endurance Training now includes the old Thick Hide armor bonus.
Aspect of the Monkey gives twice the dodge and passes half of that to your pet. Intimidation now needs Bestial Swiftness and gives the pet’s next attack 100% more crit chance, while Bestial Discipline lets you regenerate mana from Spirit while casting.
Marksmanship: Sniper Shot, Careful Aim and Lone Wolf
Sniper Shot is the 31-point talent and hits harder than Aimed Shot. It needs Trueshot Aura, which moves up to the 21-point slot. The October 1 beta build set its base range at 45 yards, the longest shot a Hunter has.

Lone Wolf is the 11-point talent: 20% more damage with all attacks while you have no active pet. Careful Aim adds up to 100% of your Intellect as melee and ranged Attack Power. Both sit early in the tree, so Blizzard says hybrid builds can grab them without going deep into Marksmanship.
Survival: Strider Kick, Expose Prey and traps in combat
Survival stays a ranged spec, but now it has answers once something closes the gap. Strider Kick is the 21-point talent. Expose Prey gives your attacks on the Hunter’s Mark target a chance to open Mongoose Bite as if you’d dodged, and the 31-point Lacerating Strikes makes Mongoose Bite leave a bleed over 21 seconds.

Counterattack becomes the 16-point talent, Savage Strikes raises all melee damage by 2/4%, and Survivalist’s Discipline lowers the cooldown of traps and Deterrence. Wyvern Sting is gone; it was folded into the new Resourcefulness talent along with Killer Instinct and Improved Feign Death.
Which Hunter spec fits how you play?
- You want a pet doing real work and tanking while you level solo: Beast Mastery.
- You’d rather play without a pet and hit from the longest range: Marksmanship with Lone Wolf.
- You want to fight back when mobs reach you and use traps mid-fight: Survival.
All three keep the class’s gaps. Hunters still have no stun and no interrupt, and ranged attacks still don’t work inside 8 yards.

What changed for Hunters in the October 8 beta build?
The previously announced doubling of Disengage’s threat reduction was implemented on October 8. Pets repeatedly gaining health while low and Unleashed Fury failing to increase pet damage were fixed. Ferocity not increasing the pet crit display remains a newly listed visual bug; Blizzard says the talent’s effect is not lost.
| Talent | October 8 behavior | Practical meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Expose Prey | Duration rises from 5 to 10 seconds. | A longer window to use the Mongoose Bite opportunity. |
| Entrapment | Diminishing returns apply correctly. | Repeated control effects do not retain identical duration. |
| Frost Trap / Entrapment | Triggers only on initial trap activation. | Do not expect repeated periodic procs. |
| Improved Concussive Shot | Correct proc chance implemented. | Earlier beta behavior could differ from the tooltip. |
| Improved Wing Clip | Correct chance, reduced for substantially lower ranks. | An old rank does not preserve the same proc expectation. |
