How does Rage generation work in WoW Forever?

Blizzard explained it in its Priest and Warrior class deep dive on September 30, 2026, the same day the Class Highlights Part 1 video went up. Rage from dealing damage is now fully normalized: you get it based on the speed of the weapon that hit, not on how big the hit was.

  • Crits still give extra Rage. The deep dive said 75% more; the October 1 beta build raised it to 100% more Rage on a critical strike.
  • Armor and absorption effects are ignored for incoming-damage Rage. October 8 replaces the fixed 50% armor assumption with a 20–40% range by level, rather than balancing every Warrior around tank armor.
  • Absorbs are ignored too, so a Priest’s Power Word: Shield on you no longer costs you Rage.

New baseline Warrior abilities: Victory Rush, Tactical Mastery and cooldowns

A few things that used to need talents or didn’t exist at all are now trained abilities. The one players search for most is Victory Rush at level 20: kill an enemy that isn’t trivial for your level and you get 20 seconds to use an instant strike that also heals you for 10% of your max health, on a 30-second cooldown.

  • Tactical Mastery is trained at level 14 and keeps 10 Rage when you swap stances. Arms can push it to 25 with Improved Tactical Mastery (3 per point).
  • Recklessness, Shield Wall and Retaliation no longer share a cooldown, and Shield Wall and Retaliation drop to 15 minutes.
  • Rend and Thunder Clap now scale hard with Attack Power, and Sunder Armor threat scales with it as well. Since October 1, Rend and Sunder Armor tap the enemy instantly.
  • Improved Battle Shout, Improved Demoralizing Shout, Improved Shield Block and Improved Taunt are baked into the base abilities. Battle Shout gives less Attack Power to make up for it, since both factions now have Shamans and Paladins.

Protection Warrior changes: tanking in WoW Forever

Protection gets more Rage and an AoE tool without dancing between stances. Thunder Clap now works in Defensive Stance (its threat was lowered to match), and the new 16-point talent Vanguard lets you Charge while in Defensive Stance.

  • Shield Specialization can give 5 Rage on a block instead of 1, and the new Master of Defense gives a chance at 5 Rage when you dodge or parry with a shield.
  • Improved Revenge now adds damage instead of a stun chance, Bastion raises all your damage while you hold a shield, and Focused Rage lowers the Rage cost of your attacks.
  • Focused Rage and Bastion swapped rows on September 24, so you get the cheaper attacks before Shield Slam while leveling.
  • Improved Shield Wall now cuts Shield Wall’s cooldown by a large amount, and Defiance only adds threat with a shield equipped.
  • October 1 gave non-shield Warriors a path into the middle of the tree for a PvP second spec: Iron Will is now in row 1 of Protection and Toughness is gone.

Arms Warrior changes: Weaponmaster and Spearing Strike

The four weapon specialization talents are merged into one, Weaponmaster, so a better weapon drop no longer means a trip to the trainer for a respec. In the video tooltip, swords get a 5% chance for an extra attack, axes and polearms get 5% crit, and maces and staves ignore 15% of the target’s armor.

Spearing Strike, the 16-point talent, is a low-damage hit that knocks players off their mounts and hits Giants and Dragonkin harder. Since October 1 it no longer needs a two-hander, only Battle Stance. Bloodthrill gives your main-hand hits on a Rend target a 4/8/12/16/20% chance to light up Overpower, and Improved Slam takes 1.5/3 seconds off Slam’s new 18-second cooldown.

Fury Warrior changes: the October 1 rework

Fury changed again after the video. The Class Highlights tooltip shows Raging Blows making Whirlwind hit with your off-hand, but in the October 1 build Whirlwind always hits with both weapons, no talent needed, and Raging Blows now takes 3 Rage off Cleave and Whirlwind.

Fury talents after the October 1 beta build
Talent or abilityNowBefore
Bloodthirst No heal; 10% movement speed for 10 sec; Attack Power ratio 45% Healed you; ratio 35%
Booming Voice Shouts cover 10/20/30/40/50% more area and cost 5/10/15/20/25% less Rage Shout duration bonus (now baseline)
Lingering Rage (new, row 2) Rage starts decaying 2/4/6/8/10 sec later out of combat —
Furious Precision (new, row 3) 4/7/10% off-hand hit chance Dual Wield Specialization gave the hit
Gore Drinker (new, row 6) After Enrage, Berserker Rage, Bloodrage, Death Wish or Bloodthirst, your next 3 melee hits heal 0.5/1% of max health —
Flurry Needs Death Wish Needed Enrage
Berserker Rage Level 30 Level 32

Improved Cleave and Boundless Rage are gone, Unbridled Wrath no longer gives two-handers double Rage, and Death Wish now raises all damage you take instead of lowering your armor and resistances.

What Warriors are good and bad at in WoW Forever

Blizzard’s own summary: Warriors deal sustained damage to several melee targets at once, something no other melee class does, and can either tank or deal damage in any group. The weakness stays: they have few ways to recover once they’ve taken too much damage, which is why Victory Rush and Gore Drinker matter while leveling.

FAQ

When do Warriors get talents and dual spec in WoW Forever?
Talents start at level 10, with one-point milestone talents at 11, 16, 21 and 31 points. Dual Specialization unlocks at level 40, and you change talents at a class trainer in a major city.
Which classes are in the other Class Highlights videos?
Part 1 covered Warrior, Shaman and Rogue. Part 2 (October 3) covered Hunter, Mage and Paladin, and Part 3 (October 6) covers Druid, Warlock and Priest.

October 8: Rage bugs and tank fixes

The incoming-damage Rage calculation incorrectly used player health, causing more Stamina to produce less Rage; that bug is fixed. Critical/crushing-blow multipliers and absorbs were also corrected. Demoralizing Shout generates threat again, and Last Stand now grants the correct amount of health.

Arms once again requires Deep Wounds before Impale. Deep Wounds scaling from off-hand Attack Power was a bug: Blizzard describes it as a rolling DoT that does not scale with Attack Power. Weapon-swap macros can also change multiple weapons within the same global cooldown again.
