What’s new for Mages in WoW Forever?
Blizzard showed the Mage in Part 2 of its Class Highlights video on October 3, 2026, after Hunter and before Paladin. The theme is hybrid builds: instead of locking you into one tree, talents from Fire and Frost can power the same spell, and Arcane rewards you for weaving the other two schools in.
Mage spells in the video: mana, cast time and range
These are the tooltips from the video. They’re beta values, so damage numbers can still change before launch on November 4.
| Spell | Mana | Cast | Range | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Frostfire Bolt | 370 | 3 sec | 35 yd | 543–588 Frostfire damage, 40% slow, 57 more over 9 sec; checked against the lower of Frost and Fire resist |
| Arcane Blast | 182 | 2.5 sec | 30 yd | 593–654 Arcane damage; each cast gives your other spells +10% damage and Arcane Blast +175% mana cost, up to 4 stacks for 8 sec |
| Ice Lance | 45 | Instant | 30 yd | 28–33 Frost damage, 300% more against Frozen targets |
| Hot Streak (passive) | — | — | — | Crits with Fireball, Frostfire Bolt, Fire Blast or Scorch give a 20 sec stack; each stack cuts Pyroblast’s cast by 25%, up to 3 |

Frostfire Bolt: one spell for Fire and Frost talents
Because Frostfire Bolt counts as both schools, talents from either tree make it stronger. Blizzard listed which ones in the video:
- Fire: Improved Fireball, Ignite, Flame Throwing, Impact, Burning Soul, Improved Scorch, Hot Streak, Critical Mass, Firepower, Combustion.
- Frost: Ice Shards, Permafrost, Frostbite, Piercing Ice, Frost Channeling, Fingers of Frost, Winter's Chill.
The example Blizzard gave is Ignite with Ice Shards for more crit and more damage. Fire Mages who want a hybrid path can spec into Frostfire Bolt and lean on damage plus control instead of pure Fireball.
Arcane: spending mana for damage with Arcane Blast
Arcane Power is about more spell damage at a higher mana cost, and Arcane Blast is where you feel it. Each cast buffs every other spell you cast, but Arcane Blast gets pricier with every stack. Fights turn into a loop: stack Arcane Blast while you can afford it, then weave cheap Fire and Frost spells while the bonus is still up.

Fire: Hot Streak is now Heating Up
The video still calls it Hot Streak, but the October 1 beta build renamed it Heating Up, since it no longer depends on a streak of crits. Every fire crit adds a stack, so you build toward a fast Pyroblast instead of waiting for one instant-cast proc.
The same build put Combustion back to 3 charges after it had been 4, and Improved Scorch’s Fire Vulnerability no longer rolls a second resist check. Since September 24, Wake of Fire lasts 30 seconds (was 20) and Ignite stops counting percentage multipliers twice.
Frost: Ice Lance and Fingers of Frost
Ice Lance is the new instant follow-up when Fingers of Frost procs. It barely tickles on its own and is built for Frozen targets. Since October 1, applying Winter’s Chill no longer rolls a resist, because the spell that triggered it already had to hit.
Which races can be Mages in WoW Forever?
Forever adds two new options: Orc Mage, one of six new race and class combinations, and the Alliance-side High Order Skyborne. The full list of who can play what is in our classes and races chart.

Which classes are in the other Class Highlights videos?
October 8 fixes: Impact and lower spell ranks
Impact no longer procs from periodic Flamestrike damage. Frostbolt and Fireball ranks 1–5, plus Arcane Missiles ranks 1–3, received progression adjustments so learning the next rank provides a consistent upgrade.
The notes do not establish a new maximum-damage ranking. If you use low ranks, compare their current descriptions rather than carrying forward an older beta value; there is no single percentage increase covering every rank.
