Pick a role before you pick a class

Classic dungeon groups were five players: one tank, one healer and three DPS. The tank holds threat, the healer keeps people alive and the DPS kill stuff. Blizzard says threat and crowd control still matter in Forever, so group roles still count.

The pace stays close to Classic too. Blizzard is aiming for roughly 10 to 15 seconds to kill a regular mob solo. Expect to pick your pulls rather than chain through everything in sight.

Easiest classes to level solo

In Classic, pet classes had the smoothest solo ride. A Hunter or Warlock pet holds the mob while you do damage from range. Mages conjure their own food and water and can keep mobs at a distance, so they spend less time sitting. Warriors leaned hardest on gear and were the slowest to get going.

Every class is being reworked for Forever, so don't assume those gaps carry over exactly. One change clearly helps hybrids: bonus healing now also gives bonus damage equal to a third of it. A Priest, Paladin, Shaman or Druid in healing gear can still kill things while questing.

Want groups? Play a tank or a healer

Every dungeon group needs a tank and a healer, and DPS is always the crowded role. If you want invites, fill one of the scarce spots. Blizzard hasn't announced a dungeon finder for Forever.

Paladin has the most detailed changes so far. Holy Strike comes at level 6, seals are no longer consumed by Judgement, tanks get a new Seal of Fury, and Consecration is baseline at level 20. Still no interrupt, though.

What's changing for every class

  • All classes and specs are getting updates.
  • Talent trees keep the same number of rows and the 11/21/31 milestones, with a new milestone added at 16 points.
  • Group buff talents like Divine Spirit, Blessing of Kings and Improved Mark of the Wild become baseline, so you don't spend points on them.

New race/class combos and Skyborne

Six new combos are coming: Gnome Priest, Human Hunter, Dwarf Shaman, Orc Mage, Troll Warlock and Undead Paladin. Shaman used to be Horde-only and Paladin Alliance-only. With Dwarf Shaman and Undead Paladin, both factions get both classes.

Skyborne pick a side at character creation. Horde-aligned Windshapers can be Shamans, Alliance-aligned High Order can be Mages, and both sides get Warrior, Hunter, Rogue and Druid. You need the Skyborne Heroic Pack or higher to play one.

Quick picks for your first character

  • Relaxed solo leveling: Hunter or Warlock.
  • Ranged damage and AoE: Mage.
  • Always in demand: a healer on Priest, Paladin, Shaman or Druid.
  • Leading the pulls: a tank on Warrior, Paladin or Druid.
  • No idea which role you'll like: Druid.

FAQ

What's the strongest class in WoW Forever?
Nobody knows yet. The game launches November 4, 2026, every class is changing, and the beta stops at level 30. Real level 60 balance only shows up after launch.
Can Horde play Paladin and Alliance play Shaman?
Yes. Undead Paladin gives the Horde a Paladin option and Dwarf Shaman gives the Alliance a Shaman. On Skyborne, Shaman sits on the Horde-aligned side and Mage on the Alliance-aligned side.
Is Druid a good first class?
It's a safe pick if you don't know your role yet. Druids shapeshift to tank, heal or deal damage, and Improved Mark of the Wild no longer costs talent points. Skyborne Druids also get new forms.
Do I have to pay extra to play Skyborne?
Yes. Forever itself comes with an active subscription or Game Time, but the Skyborne race and the Zephras Isle start need the Skyborne Heroic Pack or higher. No pack requirement has been mentioned for the six new race/class combos.
