When does the Shaman totem bar unlock?

The tools in Blizzard’s October 7 class deep dive belong to the whole class, so you do not need Restoration talents to use them. Persistent buff totems last five minutes; totems with special, shorter durations are not included. Placing a totem now uses a one-second global cooldown.

Shaman totem tools and unlock levels
ToolLevelWhat it lets you do
Call of the Elements 20 Unlock the totem bar and save a set containing one totem of each element.
Totemic Recall 20 Remove your totems and recover 25% of their mana cost.
Totemic Projection 22 Move active totems within 30 yards; one-minute cooldown and 25% base mana cost.
Call of the Spirits 30 Save a second set.
Call of the Ancestors 40 Save a third set.

A Call takes three seconds to cast and costs the combined mana of its selected totems. The tracking bar also shows remaining durations and lets you dismiss a totem with a right-click. When a party moves, compare the cost of moving your current set against placing only the totems needed for the next pull.

Short answer

Shamans can summon preset totem sets and move active totems. Elemental gains Lava Burst, Enhancement gets the personal Rage of the Farseer cooldown, and Restoration gains Riptide. Totem placement and mana still matter.

What stacks with weapon imbues?

Your weapon imbues last an hour and work alongside temporary enchants, including stones and Wizard Oil. Fire Nova is now a spell that erupts around your existing Fire Totem. Placing that totem determines where the Nova lands instead of requiring a fresh Fire Nova Totem for each explosion.

Windfury Totem is a party buff rather than a weapon enchant. It cannot benefit the party alongside Grace of Air or Flametongue Totem. A Shaman with Windfury Weapon does not also benefit from Windfury Totem; the matching Flametongue effects have the same personal restriction.

Which Shaman spec fits your preferred combat style?

Shaman spec choices and their key interactions
PreferenceTools to build aroundDecision that matters
Ranged spell damage Lava Burst and Lightning Overload Your Flame Shock boosts Lava Burst; Overload copies are free and generate no threat.
Melee with spell follow-ups Stormstrike and Maelstrom Weapon Build Maelstrom charges for shorter Lightning Bolt casts; Rockbiter changes Spirit Weapons’ threat behavior.
Direct and chained healing Riptide and Water Shield Chain Heal benefits from Riptide on its target; choosing a Shield affects mana recovery.

Elemental’s 31-point Lava Burst deals 20% more damage with your Flame Shock present. Lightning Overload can copy Lightning Bolt or Chain Lightning at half damage. Elemental Mastery is removed, so an old Classic talent allocation does not describe this tree.

Enhancement gets Stormstrike at the 16-point milestone with an eight-second cooldown. Rage of the Farseer affects only you, rather than giving the group Bloodlust. Improved Ghost Wolf allows indoor use with its first point and becomes instant with the second. Spirit Weapons gives Enhancement tools for temporary small-group tanking, which is a narrower role than a general tank recommendation.

Restoration brings Mana Tide forward to the 16-point milestone and adds Riptide at 31 points. The instant heal leaves a HoT, and Chain Heal on that target gains 25% effectiveness. Only one Shield can be active: Water Shield returns mana from incoming attacks and critical results from your healing spells.

Which beta fixes override older Shaman descriptions?

The October 1 build fixed Totemic Recall failing to refund mana. The October 7 deep dive still contains the older bug warning, so it should not be treated as the latest status. October 8 fixed Fire Nova activating and immediately consuming Elemental Focus, corrected Water Shield’s mana display, and removed its incorrect cooldown wording.

Flametongue Totem uses a shapeshifted target’s attack speed, rather than the equipped weapon’s speed. Lower Lightning Bolt ranks received progression adjustments, and Mana Tide’s pulse visual was restored. The class quests also became less restrictive: Storm, Earth, and Fire has more reliable creature and totem availability, while Eye of the Tempest for Heed My Call became a multi-drop item.
