How camping works

The old Cooking Fire is now the Basic Campfire, and it anchors a campsite. A campsite gives you:

  • Rest
  • Vendors
  • Repairs
  • Profession workspaces
  • 1-hour buffs

So selling greys and fixing your gear doesn't have to mean a run back to town.

Profession objects: slots and unlocks

A campfire holds up to 3 profession objects, and upgraded campfires raise that to 5 or 10. Blizzard hasn't said yet how upgrading a campfire works.

Your first objects unlock at profession skill 20. The advanced ones come from Blueprint recipes out of dungeons, which gives crafters a real reason to run them.

600+ new recipes and XP food

Professions are getting over 600 new recipes in total. Crafted food can grant stats plus a small XP bonus, so Cooking pulls its weight while you level.

Starting zones get profession content too. Places like Valley of Trials and Shadowglen pick up new NPCs, quests, profession hooks and recipes, so crafting shows up in your first few levels.

Where Legacy fits in

Professions is one of the three Legacy Trees every character gets. The Resourcefulness tree ties into camping as well: in Blizzard's screenshot, its Reagent Economy perk makes Tier 1 camping features cost no reagents to craft.

Getting the most out of camping while leveling

  • Pick your professions early. Camp objects start at skill 20, and starting zones now have profession content.
  • Don't skip Cooking. Crafted food can add a small XP bonus on top of its stats.
  • On long questing sessions, plan vendor and repair stops around campsites instead of town.
  • Keep an eye out for Blueprint recipes in dungeons, since advanced camp objects come from them.
  • When you spend Legacy Points, check the Professions and Resourcefulness trees first.
